GOING TO THE CLUB MADE ME FEEL I HAD A LARGER FAMILY

many a night was spent here playing snooker or table tennis but a lot of the time was spent learning how to be boxers . we all dreamed of becoming the next rocky however our dreams where soon shattered when we found even our own shadows where not afraid of us.
Jackie Brady says her Dad use to do a bit of boxing in St Mary's boys club, and also helped some of the lads with boxing, he always said that it was haunted by an old nun l can well believe that has l always thought the old parts of the school where eerie

IT SEEMED HAS IF THE CLUB HAD IT OWN " STRICTLY COME DANCING"
The coming of the mid 1950,s brought a big change to the music world with the arrival of disc jockeys who promoted a new kind of music called rock and roll soon all the kids where dancing to Bill Haley followed by Elivis Presley and many more so it was not long before all clubs where playing the new records out on the market for us kids to dance to

old recordsI dont know if anyone rembers going to the club, we used to bop the nite away i think mr&mrs bickerstaff ran it they sold crisps and drinks and played the records.

BOYS CLUB DANSOM LANE - ST MARYS RC SCHOOL WILTON STREETWow! What a great reminder Ann. Yes I used to go to that Youth Club. It was fantastic.
It was there I learned to "bop"
The music was ace. I also remember making my wide skirts with masses and masses of net.
There must be loads of ex pupils who went there.BOYS CLUB DANSOM LANE - ST MARYS RC SCHOOL WILTON STREET
There was a boy called Keith something and he was the most fantasic dancer. We girls all wanted to dance with him I recall.
Rock and roll was everything at that time.

i went there for a year or so, cant remember who taught us boxing then but they threw you in at the deep end, on my second night there i was put in the ring with a lad a lot bigger than me who proceeded to knock ten bells out of me, had a few black eyes & bloody noses in my time there, but learned fast & loved it, happy days
