"The man in bed" did indeed get a lot of pleasure from the people waving to him,
His relation was a chiropodist who practiced from the same house. He was a clock maker in his day and I remember rooms full of equipment for clock making, which used to fascinate me. My grandmother was the ladys housekeeper so I often went after school. My gran used to stay if the lady had to go away. He was a lovely gentleman but I cant remember his name. The lady would only ever have butter on the table and my gran did all the baking (with butter) and the housekeeping as well as caring for the gentleman.
